The Socs were the rich kids. They lived on the West Side. The Socs were always getting drunk and looking for fights with greasers. The Greasers always thought that the Socs had it better than them, but they find out that the Socs are cool to the point of not feeling anything. They find out that the Socs have it just as rough as they do. All of the Socs drove corvettes and wore madras. They got everything they wanted, but had to be cool.

Cherry was a red headed Soc. Ponyboy and Johnny met her at the drive in theater, when she wouldn’t put up with her drunk boyfriend. When the Greasers and the Socs were going to have a rumble Cherry spied on the Socs for the Greasers. She hates fighting and alcohol. Cherry loved to watch the sunset, as did Ponyboy. Cherry said that the difference between Greasers and Socs wasn’t the money, it was emotions. She said that Socs were cool to the point of not feeling anything. Cherry said that she would find herself rambling on about something she didn’t even like, just to be cool.

Bob was Cherry’s boyfriend. Johnny killed Bob in the book when him and Randy got drunk and went looking for a fight. Bob tries to drown Ponyboy and Johnny stabs Bob and he dies. Cherry said that Bob was a special person and only wanted someone to lay down the law for him. She believes that if it wasn’t for alcohol Bob would still be living to this moment. Bob was Randy’s best friend in the book and they did everything together. They want to beat up Ponyboy and Johnny because they sat with Cherry and Marcia at the drive in theater. Bob's parents always blamed themselves if Bob did something wrong or 'bad.'

Randy was Bob’s best friend and Marcia’s Boyfriend. When Bob dies Randy goes and talks to Ponyboy. He says that if someone told Bob "No" or slugged him one time, he might, just might, still be alive. He says that it was hard to lose Bob because he was a good guy when he wasn’t drinking. Randy shows Pony that Socs are just like Greasers and have just as many problems as Greasers do.

Marcia was a young black haired girl. She was an only child in the book. Her best friend in the book was Cherry. Her boyfriend was Randy. When Randy and Bob got drunk at the drive in theater, Marcia and Cherry got out of the car and went to watch the movie from the stands. At the stands Marcia met Two-Bit. You can never tell if Two-Bit is sober or drunk. Marcia and Two-Bit had the same personality and were getting along real well.
